NEW CHRISTMAS LIGHTS FOR LOANHEAD
If you have passed through Fountain Green over the Christmas period, hopefully you will have noticed the new lights on the town's Christmas Tree and the new coloured festoon lighting around the Green.
These developments mark the beginning of a programme to renew and expand Loanhead's festive lighting display. As Midlothian Council has no funding available for projects of this nature, Loanhead Community Development Association (LCDA) has taken on the challenge to raise the money required to brighten up the town centre for the festive season.
It may take two or three years to achieve our goal but hopefully improvements can be made on an annual basis. Donations towards the cost of new lights are invited and can be made to LCDA at any time. Please contact us for more information.

LOANHEAD COMMUNITY FIREWORKS' DISPLAY 2014

Following the great success of our community fireworks' displays in 2012 and 2013, Loanhead Community Development Association (LCDA) is once more staging a fireworks' display in 2014. This year's display will take place on Friday 7 November 2014. The venue will once more be the Memorial Park.

Gates open at 6.00 pm. In the run up to the display we hope to have musical entertainment from a pipe band. Glow products will be on sale from the LCDA stall in the park and Loanhead Parish Church will be providing a range of refreshments in the Church Hall which can be accessed direct from the public viewing area in the park.

Last admission from the gates on The Loan and Burghlee Terrace will be at 6.45 pm. Thereafter, to ensure public safety during the display, public entry will only be by way of the gate from Park Crescent until the display has concluded. The Gala Queen and Herald will lead the countdown to the start of the display.

Admission to the display is free although we do invite donations from those attending to help in meeting the substantial costs involved in staging the display and to help ensure it can continue next year. We also gratefully acknowledge contributions from Midlothian Council, MacTaggart Scott & Co. Ltd., Loanhead Miners' Charitable Society, Loanhead & District Community Council, Sainsbury's Straiton and Loanhead & Roslin Rotary Club.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY PARADE

Following the recent closure of the Loanhead Ex-Servicemen's Club, Loanhead Community Development Association has stepped in to attend to the arrangements for the parade on Remembrance Sunday and to ensure the continuation of this important community event.

This year's parade will take place on Sunday 9 November 2014. It will assemble in the car park at Loanhead Miners' Club and will move off from there at 10.30 am, proceeding by The Loan, Clerk Street, George Drive, Kennington Avenue, McKinlay Terrace, Dryden Terrace and The Loan to arrive at the Memorial at the park for 10.55 am. In the event of inclement weather, a shortened route may be used.

Following the two minutes' silence at 11.00 am wreaths will be laid and a short service will be conducted by the Rev Graham Duffin of Loanhead Parish Church. The parade will then return to Loanhead Miners' Club to disperse.

All are welcome to attend, with both current and former service personnel, their families and representatives of local organisations particularly invited to join the parade.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

In the current financial climate, Midlothian Council has indicated it is unable to provide any funds to upgrade and replace the town's limited and ageing Christmas lighting display. Loanhead Community Development Association (LCDA) has therefore embarked on what we envisage will be a 3 – 4 year project to gradually improve and extend Loanhead's seasonal display.

The project has commenced with the purchase of new lighting for use on the town's Christmas tree and new festoon lighting for use around Fountain Green. Funds have been raised by LCDA at various events including a recent Race Night. We hope we will receive the support of many in the town to raise further funds over the next few years as we strive to make further improvements, eventually resulting in a display which the town can be proud of and which will rank alongside the best elsewhere in Midlothian.
